A Mutual Feeling #2

With SPX in just a few days, I'll be premiering two books. Well, I hope it will be two books, with fingers crossed as to the shipping of the second one.

I'll definitely have copies of "A Mutual Feeling #2", the second chapter of a story about bare knuckle boxing in 1850's New York City. This issue follows closely after the events of the first book, as John Lafferty, an Irish immigrant, looks to set up the big fight that will let him pay off his estranged wife, Molly.

In no particular order, this issue features: back room politicking; 18th century patriotic ballads; 19th century prosthetic limbs; child abuse; boxing; thuggery; butchery; fighting; hanging; burlap sacks; water; and one really big, fat ass.

New Works

A few things that I've been working recently:

1) A panel from a new Mr. Morris comic (very weird)
2) A snippet from a humorous map of my brother's garden (very sweet)
3) A sample from my comic for the most recent issue of Magic Bullet (very scatological)
4) A new version of Bob Stump (very creepy)

DC Conspiracy Group Show, July 12 - August 16

Just a reminder that the DC Conspiracy's newest art show, focusing on some of its early collaborative work, opens this Saturday, June 12.

Last night I helped Evan Keeling, who spearheaded the show, begin the installation, along with Mal Jones, another DCC'er.

D.C. Conspiracy Retrospective

The D.C. Conspiracy is having a little retrospective art show, featuring art from our early days, when we met at the Arlington bar Dr. Dremo's. We made a character and figure head out of the name, and so the show will focus on that little intersection of art and commerce.

The opening is in about two weeks, July 12.

"Dr. W, # C"

Panel Patter has posted a review of my comic, "Dr. W # C," the third comic that features the character (after #A and #2, of course). Link here.

I'll also be the artist-in-resident tonight and Saturday morning, for the MAGIC BULLET exhibit at Artisphere. I should have some copies of this comic and some cards of Aunt Elizabeth, while they last, for anyone who stops by!

DCC at SPX.

The DC Conspiracy will once again be at the Small Press Expo. (For some of our members, this will be their 10th straight SPX as an exhibitor.) This year, we’re consolidating our forces into a single unified 5-table (w10-w15) storefront. You will still be able to find and purchase all of your favorite comics by DC Conspiracy members, but now you’ll be able to do it all at once. Think of it as a real life DC Conspiracy Distro shop.

With the new set-up we’ll be taking turns with dedicated signing times and shifts manning the store, so if there is someone you are most interested in having autograph your book, please check out the schedule. (A downloadable pdf is available here.)

DC Conspiracy: Comics Making Studio

No new art, but an announcement for DC Conspiracy's upcoming show at Artisphere, in Rosslyn, Virginia. It's a comic making studio in the Works in Progress gallery, and will feature original pages from the comics newspaper MAGIC BULLET as well as a rotating cast of in-studio artists drawing new pages and making comics right there. The WIP Gallery is located, appropriately enough, right in advance of the Andy Warhol exhibit that they'll be running, so you can get a double dose of culture when you go.

The show runs from August 21 - November 3.
