SPX

I'll be at SPX (http://www.smallpressexpo.com/) this weekend, the 17th and 18th, selling comics, including the brand new Howzit Funnies #5, featuring more of the same creepy, rhyming, humor. Below is the cover, as well as some of the characters, within.

I'll be at table G9, along with the rest of the DC Conspiracy crew.

Don't Even Need the Razor Blades

A new comic about a really cold winter, which is, unfortunately, completely at odds to the start of summer that we just embarked upon. But, maybe that's ok ... There's the Camus quote, to the effect that, "In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer." Which is a fine outlook, I suppose, though it necessarily admits the inverse: That every inner summer is surrounded by a big blank winter of bone-chilling, universal frigidity that is relentlessly assaulting and crippling us with its inevitable force of obliterating power. Snow what I mean?

Anyway, the comic was also bit of an experiment in certain respects, so it is what it is. Like most things, it's not perfect, but I hope there are a few things to recommend it. At the very least, you deserve a chuckle or two, out of it.

Apologies for the small writing ... It may be easiest to read if right click (control + click, on a mac) and open the images in a new tab.

Halloween!

A short Halloween comic, nothing more, and, probably, quite a bit less.

If you click on them and find them hard to read in the blogger's image viewer thing, it may help to right click (or ctrl + click, on a mac) so that you can open them in a new tab.

Howzit Funnies #3

The second book that I hope (!) to have at SPX is the third issue of "Howzit Funnies." Originally inspired by old blues songs, these comics feature silly puns and happy faces, as well as dark surrealism, psychological terror, physical mutilation and, for lack of a better word, grotesquerie. Issue #3 stars a diverse set of characters including Mr. Morris; Fat F*ck; a guy with candles jammed into his eyes; and several other happy characters who look forward to meeting you.

Art Shows

A few gallery shows that I've had work in ...

In February, at UDC, a group of us cartoonists were in a show called cARToons, displaying a number of our original comic pages. My contributions were a few Dr. W pages from MAGIC BULLET, as well as "A Light-Hearted Comic For Dim-Witted Souls," which can be found a few posts down, on this blog. The show was handily organized by Teresa Logan, who also hand lettered the signs and took this photo of my display ...

For the end of March, and for a few weeks into April, I have two Dr. W pages at the 505 North Gallery in Frederick, Maryland. Rafer Roberts, of Plastic Farm, was a mighty organizer as well as participant, and this picture of the opening is courtesy of Steve Loya, of Splotch Monster fame.

Lastly, I have some drawings in the Fur to Feathers exhibit at the Schuler School, in Baltimore. The opening is on March 29 and runs into April. I have three bird drawings on display, including this fellow ...

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! A free mini-comic for the holiday ....

I'll also be the artist-in-resident tonight and Saturday morning, for the MAGIC BULLET exhibit at Artisphere. I should have some copies of this comic and some cards of Aunt Elizabeth, while they last, for anyone who stops by!

Aunt Elizabeth

A pre-Halloween treat for everyone!

I'll be the artist in residence this week at the MAGIC BULLET exhibit at Artisphere, in Rosslyn. It's the last week to check it out. I'll be drawing a mural on Thursday, Halloween night, and working on a newspaper page on Saturday afternoon. It's the last week of the exhibit, so come by and check it out! I'm hoping to have some "Aunt Elizabeth" cards and maybe a mini-comic to give out for free to folks who show up on Thursday.

An all new Howzit Funny ... like the best of its ilk, it's apropos of nothing and worth less than that.
